With this formulation the expressions for the melting temperature are equivalent in three and two dimensions. Moreover, in two dimensions the Lindemann’s melting criterion essentially coincides with the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless-Halperin-Nelson-Young melting condition of dislocation unbinding.
